Back garden azaleas

I painted this last month - and did not finish it. I like the areas of remaining light in the picture - but realise I need to finish the left side in a minimalist sort of way. The shape of the pool is all wrong on the left, part of my frustration in not finishing it. The azaleas and bridal spirea do not bloom simultaneously - I took a bit of artistic license there!! Sisters - help! Your advice is needed.

It's a lovely garden painting... you could perhaps take more artistic licenece and put another bridal spirea on the left there... just a few dots and dashes around a white shape..? Just hide the troublesome pool outline? Or - the light sky above the fence on the left could cause a white, light reflection in the pool, so you'd need just the vaguest of indications of the edge of the pool - I guess it depends on how much you want it to look like the actual scene. Also, perhaps if you darkened the area at top right... more shadowy foliage, it would make your light areas look brighter and give it more balance - I think!

I do have some potted flowers on the left that I thought of painting in a dark area left foreground. Then I could keep the afternoon sunlight that really does pour in from the left(west)lighting up all the trees.
Adam's advice of checkerboard light and dark...? Behind that fence is the ugly grey brown roof of the neighbours. Did not want to paint that in - as it would darken everything immediately. Basically I just lost interest in this painting, but slowly am coming back to giving it another go...!

Hi there... I'm home! Much nicer to look at your posts than to go through the mail and the laundry.I have to say I like your painting as it is, Gillian. I think the white space makes it light and breezy and gives the eye a place to relax. I did not think there was something missing there at all. And no-one knows what shape the pool is but you! I love the little blocks of colour extending into the white and would say "well done".You could so easily overwork it. XX

Actually I think Cath is right about darkening the top right area. :)

Thank you, sisters. Welcome home VP!
Yes - I can see how I could easily overwork this w/c. Thanks for your suggestions. Today is overcast after quite a thunderstorm and much rain in the early hours of the morning. I'll wait for another sunny afternoon to attempt some minimal touch up...
